VIDEO: Hyperlocal data journalism

Andy Dickinson, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and working at the Media Innovation Studio, talks to us about hyperlocal data journalism. We interviewed him at the Nordic Data Journalism Conference in April 2016. He explains the situation with traditional local media and hyperlocal media in the UK.

We also talked about the hyperlocal project Media Mill, its results and another project aimed at creating data tools for communities. Finally, Dickinson suggests that more research is needed on whether data journalism outputs are actually useful and how people can reuse them.

Editor’s note: At Journalism Research News, we are currently experimenting with video interviews from researchers. Therefore we warmly encourage any feedback! How did you like the interview?
