The current social media environment provides unique opportunities for journalism that otherwise would not be available, writes Jayeon Lee. However, social media also poses various challenges to traditional journalism norms and professional values.

Study analyzes how U.S. and British mainstream news organizations frame the current social media environment in their social media guidelines.

Results show that news organizations are concerned about the social media environment rather than excited about it. They are specially critical when it’s about their own employees’ uses of social media.
