Epistemological tensions arise when journalists create news stories by analyzing huge datasets, writes Sylvain Parasie. Traditional journalistic norms can be reached, but only with significant effort. As the author’s investigation points out, journalists are split over the issue: some use data to confirm their hypotheses while others simply report what the data has to offer.
