VIDEO: News ecology studies scale down only to some extent

Henrik Örnebring, Professor of Media and Communication at Karlstad talked to us about his research on news ecology. He has studied the small town of Karlstad, Sweden, to see whether the research would have similar results as the previous ones done mostly in US metropolitan areas. There are some similar findings, though major differences are a lack of alternative media and the strong role of local government.

Örnebring is also interested in professional identities of journalists who have lost their jobs. In the video, he tells about a new interdisciplinary study done together with a geographer.

The interview was filmed at the NordMedia 2017 conference in Tampere.
