How are agency and different sides of a conflict portrayed, when comparing commercial news and nations’ political soft power media? The question is posed by Jesse Owen Hearns-Branaman in a recent article.
The paper studies coverage from the New York Times, Guardian, Fars News Agency, Tehran Times, and Xinhua News Agency comparing their views on Iran and the United States and its allies. A national bias is found, raising a question of how much do commercial news organizations differ from government-sponsored services.
