ARTICLE: Image-text relations and religion

World news slideshows have crucial roles in containing polarized image-text types of topics covering the whole world, says a recent study.

Anna Roosvall of Stockholm University studied how texts and images are interrelated in online world news slideshows via multimodal and discourse analysis. Templates for different religions are found: many appear as aesthetic commodities in images, whereas Islam in texts tends to “sell” images of violence/destruction.
