Although journalists still hold the cultural authority as knowledge creators, professional satire news sites mimic naturalized news formats. This is the two-fold argument presented by Tom van Hout of Leiden University/University of Antwerp and Peter Burger of Leiden University.

Their chapter uses media linguistics to analyze news media and its language. Journalists have succeeded in naturalizing common news media frames and formats, they conclude. However, satire news sites and news memes created by ordinary people mock precisely these formats and frames.
