Online first: The short history of quantitative journalism and its tensions

Quantitative journalism, or as it would be fashionable to put it, data journalism, is in fact generations old, writes C. W. Anderson. As a milestone on the way to a monograph on the same topic, Anderson’s article was published online first in the journal Digital Journalism. In this article the author approaches the subject through historical tensions, “tensions between records and reports, individuality and social science, and isolated facts and broader patterns”.

The article can be accessed online here (abstract public).
