CFP | 14.5. | Muslim women in the media

The Media, Communication and Cultural Studies Association (MeCCSA) is calling for paper proposals for an upcoming, one-day conference on Muslim women in the media. The conference is organised by the MeCCSA Race, Ethnicity and Postcolonial Network, and it will be hosted by the University of East London on the 24th of May 2018.

The event’s full title is “Self-Representation and representation of Muslim women in digital media and on-screen”. The organisers have suggested three specific topics, but submissions are not limited to them:

  • The representation of Muslim women across media platforms and the press
  • Social media self-representation platforms – Representation in film and television (Britain, Hollywood and beyond)
  • Social media brand affiliations – Social impact of self-/representation

Presentation abstracts should be sent by April 20. The deadline has been extended to 14 May.
