A new article by Lea Hellmueller of Texas Tech University examines gatekeeping in a transnational context of journalism cultures from a theoretical point of view.
Traditionally the research on journalism culture has been conceptualized within a national system. However, taking globalisation into account, transnational networks of news production indicate a shift in the conceptualization of journalism culture, the author writes.
The study develops three analytical levels of transnational journalism culture: evaluative, cognitive, and performative. These levels form an analytical framework: the conceptualization of transnational journalism.
The article “Gatekeeping beyond geographical borders” was recently published in International Communication Gazette and is available online (free abstract).
